BowFlex dates to 1986, when BowFlex of America began selling the BowFlex 2000X, a home gym that used flexible polymer rods for resistance. The company behind it later became Direct Focus and then Nautilus, Inc., based in Vancouver, Washington, and renamed itself BowFlex Inc. in 2023. After filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2024, it sold substantially all of its assets to Taiwan-based Johnson Health Tech in April 2024. The brand is now run by Johnson Health Tech Trading, Inc. from Cottage Grove, Wisconsin.
BowFlex is known for rod- and SpiraFlex-based home gyms and for SelectTech adjustable weights, including dumbbells that use dials to select the load and the SelectTech 840 kettlebell. Its current range also includes treadmills, Max Trainer cardio machines, bikes, benches and the JRNY training app. BowFlex sells through its website, Johnson Fitness & Wellness stores and other retailers.
Testing & quality
BowFlex lists a two-year parts warranty on its Results Series SelectTech dumbbells and sells optional three- and five-year protection plans. In June 2025 the original SelectTech 552 and 1090 dumbbells were recalled because the weight plates could dislodge from the handle.
