Thorne was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Summerville, South Carolina, where it makes its supplements on its own manufacturing campus. Private equity firm L Catterton took the company private in 2023, and in August 2026 Thorne agreed to be acquired by Procter & Gamble, with the deal expected to close later that year.
Thorne sells a broad line of vitamins, minerals and sports nutrition products, including amino acid, creatine and protein powders, and it serves consumers, athletes and health-care practitioners, a group it has worked with since its early years. The company says it works with more than 100 professional sports teams and several U.S. national teams. Thorne says each product goes through four rounds of testing in its two in-house laboratories, from raw materials to shelf-life stability, and that its facilities are audited by NSF and Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration. Dozens of Thorne products, including Amino Complex and Creatine, are listed as NSF Certified for Sport.
