Under Armour was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank, who has again served as president and CEO since 2024. The company is incorporated in Maryland and headquartered in Baltimore, where its principal offices are in the Baltimore Peninsula area, and its shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange.

Under Armour designs performance apparel, footwear and accessories, with apparel lines such as HeatGear and ColdGear and footwear built on cushioning platforms including HOVR and Charged Cushioning. Its accessories business, which includes its gym bags, also covers athletic gloves, headwear and socks. Products are made by contract manufacturers and sold through national, regional and specialty retailers worldwide, as well as through Under Armour's own Brand House and Factory House stores and e-commerce sites.
