Oura was founded in Oulu, Finland, in 2013 by Petteri Lahtela, Kari Kivelä and Markku Koskela, and its first-generation ring launched in 2015. The business long operated as Oura Health Oy; in March 2026 it redomiciled to the United States, with Delaware-registered Oura Inc. becoming the parent company and its corporate headquarters in San Francisco. It keeps offices in Oulu and Helsinki as well as San Diego and Los Angeles. Oura filed for a Nasdaq listing in September 2026 but postponed the offering later that month.
The company makes the Oura Ring, a smart ring with an optical heart-rate sensor that tracks sleep, activity and readiness metrics in the Oura app; Oura Ring 5, the current generation, went on sale in June 2026. Many app features require a paid Oura Membership. Oura sells directly online and through retail and enterprise partners, and its IPO filing cites a presence in roughly 8,400 retail doors worldwide.
Testing & quality
New Oura rings carry a one-year limited warranty in the US (two years in many other countries), and direct purchases generally have a 30-day return window. Oura's 2026 IPO filing discloses that certain batches of Oura Ring 4 had battery performance issues, which it addressed with free replacements.
