The verdict

Reebok's 15th-anniversary Nano is the easiest training shoe to recommend: stable enough for most lifting, comfortable enough for classes and short runs, and roomier than the last few Nanos. Reviewers call it a strong all-rounder rather than a specialist, and frequent sales make it a great value.

Full review

Overview

The Nano X5 marks 15 years of Reebok's CrossFit-born Nano line, and Reebok says the goal was the most comfortable Nano yet. It uses a dual-density midsole, with firmer foam in the heel for stability and more responsive foam in the forefoot for running and jumping, under a breathable, lightweight Flexweave upper. A plush collar locks the foot in, a decoupled Metasplit outsole improves flexibility for short runs, and a removable insole adds arch support. Reebok positions it for strength training, functional fitness, HIIT, Olympic lifts and circuit training. It lists at $140 to $150 depending on colorway, and many colorways are regularly discounted to $99.99.

What reviewers say

That Fit Friend calls it a breath of fresh air for the Nano line and a great shoe for a little bit of everything, praising the well-rounded midsole, grippy outsole and a wider toe box than the X3 and X4. He measured a 7mm drop and 13.1 ounces, and suggests keeping runs under about two miles. Road Runner Sports called it the perfect all-around gym shoe for lifting, treadmill running and more. The main caveats: the arch can bother flat feet, the tongue runs a little short, and lifting purists may prefer something flatter and firmer.

Who it's for

CrossFitters, class-goers and hybrid athletes who want one shoe for lifting, jumping, sled pushes and short runs, especially those with medium-width feet.

Bottom line

If you only buy one training shoe, make it the Nano X5. It isn't the most specialized option, but it's the most well-rounded, and sale prices make it a bargain.

Yes, for short distances. Its responsive forefoot foam and decoupled outsole make it one of the better runners among training shoes, and That Fit Friend suggests keeping runs under about two miles.
Does the Nano X5 fit true to size?
That Fit Friend found it true to size across widths: medium feet fit really well, 2E widths are accommodated comfortably, narrow feet may notice extra space, and 3E to 4E feet may find it snug.
Should I get the Nano X5 or the older Nano X4?
Reebok describes the X4 as a firmer, more stable platform for lifting and structured workouts, while the X5 prioritizes comfort and versatility, with a roomier toe box and a less aggressive arch per reviewers.
