The verdict

The Theragun Prime is still the full-size massage gun reviewers point most people toward first: deep percussion, the ergonomic triangle grip and a mature app at a price well below Therabody's flagships. The 6th Gen adds a tougher, drop-rated shell but ships with fewer attachments and no case, so it pays to wait for a sale.

Overview

The Theragun Prime is Therabody's mainstream full-size massage gun, and the 6th Gen, launched in October 2025, keeps the formula that made it popular: a patented triangle grip, five speeds on a single button and Bluetooth pairing with the Therabody app. The upgrades are mostly about durability and guidance. A TPU rubber exterior with reinforced corners is rated for drops of up to 10 feet, LED indicators give real-time pressure feedback, and the free Coach feature builds recovery plans that can pull in data from Garmin, Apple Watch and Strava. Battery life is rated at 120 minutes, and it charges over USB-C.

What reviewers say

Reviewers consistently credit the Prime with genuine deep-tissue percussion and say the triangle handle makes it easier to reach your own back and hamstrings than most rivals. Garage Gym Reviews calls the Prime the best option for most people. The main knock on this generation is value: Best Massage Tech found little new beyond the more rugged shell and pointed out that Therabody cut the included attachments from four to two and dropped the carry case. Other reviewers flag the familiar Theragun percussive noise at top speed. BarBend's head-to-head with the Hypervolt 2 (on an earlier Prime) called the matchup close, with the Prime winning on speeds and grip options and losing on battery life.

Who it's for

Lifters, runners and gym-goers who want one do-everything gun from a brand with a proven track record and a well-developed app. If you already own a 5th Gen Prime, reviewers see little reason to upgrade.

Bottom line

It isn't the cheapest or quietest option, but the Theragun Prime remains the safest full-size pick: strong percussion, the best grip design in the category and a build that now matches its reputation. Just know that the $329.99 list price buys fewer accessories than it used to.

Frequently asked questions

What changed on the Theragun Prime 6th Gen?
The 6th Gen adds a TPU rubber exterior with reinforced corners rated for 10-foot drops, a wider triangle-grip opening, LED pressure feedback and Coach in the Therabody app. It ships with two attachments instead of the 5th Gen's four, and no carry case.
Does the Theragun Prime have heat?
No. Heated percussion is the headline feature of the pricier Theragun Prime Plus ($429.99). The standard Prime focuses on percussion, though it is compatible with Therabody's Cold Plus and Vibration Plus attachments, sold separately.
Is the Theragun Prime HSA/FSA eligible?
Therabody's product page lists HSA/FSA as accepted payment for the Prime. Confirm the details with your plan administrator before purchasing.
