Overview
The Forerunner 265 is Garmin's mid-range running and triathlon watch, sold in 46mm (265) and 42mm (265S) sizes. It pairs a bright AMOLED touchscreen with physical buttons, multi-band GPS with SatIQ, and Garmin's full training suite: Training Readiness, HRV Status, Training Status, adaptive daily suggested workouts and a morning report. Garmin rates the 46mm model at up to 13 days in smartwatch mode and 20 hours in GPS-only mode, with 5 ATM water resistance, Garmin Pay and offline music storage. Garmin has since launched the Forerunner 570, but the 265 is still on sale and still sells strongly on Amazon.
What reviewers say
DC Rainmaker called it exactly what runners had been asking for, a lightweight AMOLED Garmin with Training Readiness at a reasonable price, and said he could easily use it as his primary watch. DesFit's in-depth review and The Run Testers' month-long, multi-tester review both dig into GPS and heart-rate accuracy in detail. Reviewers consistently praise the display and the depth of training feedback. The caveats: there are no onboard maps, and switching on the always-on display cuts battery life to roughly five days. If you're torn between generations, Chase the Summit's Forerunner 570 vs 265 comparison is a useful primer; the 570 adds a speaker and microphone for calls and a brighter screen for about $100 more.
Who it's for
Runners, triathletes and gym-goers who want serious training metrics, accurate GPS and long battery life without paying flagship prices.
Bottom line
The Forerunner 265 remains the smartest buy in Garmin's running lineup for most people, especially when it dips below its $449.99 list price.
